A Call To Service

Although our top priority is always to serve others, today we pause to give special recognition to a man who dedicated his life to service. The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King remains one of the greatest and most formidable leaders of American History. He acknowledged the call on his life and lived and died striving to answer that call. Dr. King was so unselfish that he desired a better life for not just himself, but for all people. Forty-three years after his death, we stand in awe at the wonderful example he provided; yet we realize that his life’s work is incomplete. While we can honor his life and legacy on this special day, true honor is shown through action. Therefore, today our commitment to service is greater than it has ever been. Dr. King once said, “Everybody can be great because anybody can serve.” Once we all realize how much can be accomplished through the service of others, then will we truly be able to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
